When you mention the name Virsky, everyone in the Ukrainian community gets excited at the news that they are coming for a fall tour across Canada. Virsky goes back to 1937 when two well known Ukrainian ballet masters, Pavlo Virsky and Mykola Bolotov first brought a group of folk dancers together. From 1955 to 1975 the group was lead by virsky who exciting and passionate choreography has amazed the dance world for years. It was under the guidance of Virsky that the company matured into the professional dance ensemble that the world enjoys today. In 1980, Myroslav Vantukh, Virsky's disciple and an expert in folk traditions and ethnogrphy took over from Virsky and continued the creative genius, preservation and development of folk choreographic art.
The foreign press has been unanimous about the high quality and professionalism displayed by the Virsky National Dance Company of Ukraine over the years. Virsky continues to grow under the direction of Vantukh as he takes the dancers to new heights of accomplishment through his ever expanding repertoire of new dances and continues to entertain and educate the world about the talents of the Ukraine. They have travelled the world, to over sixty countries, performing for audiences in Mexico, the United States, Cuba, Venezuela, more than ten European countries, Vietnam, India, China, Brazil, and Korea. With their first class performances they have surprised and delighted audiences while teaching the world about the wonderful land of Ukraine. Boen Arts is pleased to announce the first ever all Canadian Tour of Virsky, the National Dance Company of Ukraine. Starting on October 7, 2010, they will begin their spectacular cross Canada tour in Vancouver, BC. They tour then travels across the country from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec and ends in Ontario. Please visit www.boenarts.com for performance places and dates.
