City outpaces provincial growth
The population of Saskatchewan continued to grow in 2011 by a rate of 1.3%. Over the same period, the population of the City of Melfort has grown at a rate of 10%...nearly 8 times the provincial average!

Notice of Street Renaming
At their regular meeting on Monday, January 16th, City Council passed a bylaw to:
- rename streets in the north end of Melfort to eliminate the duplication of street names on the south side.
- rename Saskatchewan Avenue, including Highway 3 west and Highway 6 south, to "Saskatchewan Drive" to link together and brand the highway commercial district.

Waste Collection - Friday, Nov. 11
Due to the statutory holiday on November 11th - Remembrance Day, Friday waste will be picked up on Thursday, November 10th.

Notice to Residents
Please take note that all garbage, including bagged leaves and garden/lawn refuse, must be placed in the waste cart provided to you. Garbage that has been placed beside the garbage cart or in a different container will not be picked up. The only time that clear leaf bags will be picked up is during spring and fall pick-up week. Thank you for your cooperation.

Front Street Waste Collection
Effective October 1st, the City will be implementing front street residential waste collection. After October 1st commercial customers, which includes multi-unit dwellings over four units, must contract directly with a waste collection contractor.

City of Melfort Recognized for Excellence at Recent SEDA Conference
The City of Melfort congratulates the Community Development Manager, Mr. Perry Trusty, for being recognized for his efforts by the Saskatchewan Economic Development Association (SEDA) annual conference held recently in Saskatoon. Mr. Trusty was recognized as the 2009 Community Economic Developer of the Year. In addition, his residential initiatives lead to the City of Melfort receiving the 2009 Community Development Award for incentives developed to attract residential growth in the community. Mr. Trusty continues to work on the new Stonegate commercial development and the assessment of residential opportunities in the community. 2011 Census

Why is it so important to register in the census? The Census means services and increased grant dollars for the taxpayers of Melfort. For every person that did not register in the 2006 Census, the City of Melfort taxpayers lost $1,095.00 per person in provincial and federal funding. It's important to be counted! You can complete the census on-line starting May 2nd.

After October 1, 2008, appliances containing refrigerants will not be accepted at the City of Melfort Landfill without a dealer's tag to confirm the absence of refrigerant and mercury.

National Household Survey
Statistics Canada has begun collecting the National Household Survey (NHS) in addition to the 2011 Census. The NHS is the voluntary replacement for the former mandatory long-form census, mailed to one in three households in Melfort.

Number of Residential Permits Issued in 2007 is three times higher than 14-year annual average.

According to a summary of new residential building permits issued since 1995, the Community Services Department reports that a total of 27 residential permits were issued in 2007, over three times higher than the annual average of 8.7* since 1995.
